Our Family Gift Exchange
This year we decided our kids were old enough to appreciate the fun of drawing a name, going shopping, wrapping the present, and keeping a secret! We decided to start the tradition of opening our family gifts to each other for Family Home Evening the Monday before Christmas. It was so fun to see the kids squirming with anticipation of both giving their gift and opening their gift!

They loved saying something nice about the person they were giving the gift to. Even Ryan really got into it when he said to Jason, "I love you because you are the best daddy!" This is a fun tradition.

Second Annual Hymas/Forbush Cookie Decorating
Cody, Royce, Carter, and Miles Forbush joined us for some fun cookie decorating. We had big plans to see the gingerbread display at the Trail Center, too, but sick kids and a late start thwarted our plans!

Elementary School Christmas Concert

(I include this picture because it was hilarious to see those first graders so worried about whistling. They'd be singing along with smiles on their faces and the whistle part would come and suddenly those faces concentrated so hard as if the world would end if they didn't get that whistling just right!)

This is how Ryan and I felt after waiting for 45 minutes for seats (and being yelled at by the principal for going into the gym too early -- hey, don't open the doors until you want parents to come in!), suffering through the fourth, fifth, and sixth grade orchestras and bands, listening to 12 different classes sing, AND experiencing the grand finale. Seriously, this concert went an HOUR longer than I anticipated. But that's what we do for our kids, right? It was pretty fun to see my kids sing!
We Saw Kenny Rogers!
We were invited to attend Children's Gala with Dr. John Andresen, a pediatrician Jason works with every Thursday afternoon, and we had such a good night! The night started with a silent auction (the bidders would bodily block you from signing up on "their" sign-up sheet -- it was so funny!). We then had an amazing dinner and really had fun chatting with the people at our table.

At about 9:30 the concert started, and we had pretty amazing seats! I've never really listened to Kenny Rogers' music before, but we really liked it! Jason knew the songs from his good old days of working at Schofield's Supermarket in Sugar City and could sing right along with the best of them. The cutest thing we have ever seen was Dr. Andresen's mother-in-law, the sweetest tiniest lady who sang along to every song and was even getting teary during the love songs. It was so cute! We didn't get to stay very long because we needed to go home and relieve the babysitters -- a special thanks goes to Alvin and Sarah for babysitting for us, allowing a night out, which almost never happens!

Tangled
We surprised the kids during Thanksgiving break with a fun afternoon at the movie theater. The girls had been dying to see "Tangled" so we went! And we loved it! It was definitely one of the better Disney movies.
After thinking we were "running errands", they were surprised to end up at the movie theater!
Ryan (with sandwich in mouth) would only stand "by the boy."
Again, the girls stood by the girl and the boy stood by the boy.
We loved the little chameleon -- so cute!
