Well, here are the long-awaited pictures of Amy's latest sewing experience. As some of you know, Amy had a little accident with her sewing machine and ended up in the ER. She accidentally let her machine sew through the middle finger of her left hand. It actually went through the nail, through the bone, and almost out the other side. This was one instance where spinal reflexes were not helpful, because Amy jerked away and the needle broke off of the machine. When she quickly tried to pull the needle from her finger, the top of the needle again broke off, leaving a good part of it in her finger. She called me at class and headed for the ER. And... as the title indicates, there were seven needles involved:
4 administrations of local anesthetic
1 IV placement for administration of antibiotics
1 tetanus shot
Here are some pictures of her finger before the extraction. Sorry it's kind of small (and gross). Don't worry, the orange liquid is just the cleaning soap they put on before trying to get it out. Amy doesn't have orange blood. But, you can see the hole the needle made at its point of entry. The next images are of the x-rays they took to see where the needle ended up. I apologize for the size and quality of the images - it's the best we could do with the CD they gave us. Hopefully it gives you the general idea...
You may have noticed that the above needle count totaled six. The seventh needle, of course, is evident in the above x-rays. :)
